Chilean artist and Ph.D. fellow at Concordia University in Canada Antonia Hernández reflects on her art-based research project “Maintenance Pornography” which explores the less spectacular side of life on the platform. Using a dollhouse as a theater interface and research device, this work looks into domestic and repetitive actions on a sexcam platform Chaturbate, a popular platform for adult content. Through a humorous yet critical play, this piece asks about the role of maintenance practices in the generation of value and the incorporation of new technological infrastructures into daily life, using an online commercial platform as a privileged point of view to explore and experience the economy behind it.
